~Friends' BookShelf Project~

As you enter the Knowlton-Risteen Building, just before you go into the Library, please take a moment to notice the BOOKSHELVES on your left (or on your right if you're on your way OUT!!) These shelves are maintained by the Friends of the Upton Town Library (the very same group who approved the purchase of our ULTRA-cool T-Shirts!), as a fundraising project to support the Museum Pass program.
The items on the shelves are donated, and are FOR SALE: hardcover books and DVDs are $2, softcover books and VHS tapes are $1, and all kids books (INCLUDING juvenile and YA titles!!) are just 2/$1!!! Check out the great selection, and keep this in mind for your holiday shopping . . . you may find some great gift ideas!

New Books in Upton!

I was just at CMRLS headquarters last night, where they are in the process of clearing out their book collection, and giving everything away to member libraries, so I picked up some great new books for our collection!

Some titles include:

The
Fashion Disaster That Changed My Life by Lauren Myracle (author of TTYL & TTFN)

Piratica: being a daring tale of a singular girl's adventure upon the high seas, presented most handsomely by the notorious Tanith Lee

The King of Mulberry Street by Donna Jo Napoli

Food for Fines!

Hey Everyone,
We're doin' it again! The Upton Town Library will, once again, be participating in Food for Fines, to help the Upton Bloomer Girls collect donations for families in need this winter.
Here's how it works:

November 28th - December 20th, 2006
"Your donations of non-perishable food items, toiletries and household paper products will be accepted in lieu of overdue fines this holiday season! Donations will be distributed to the needy families in our community."

The fine print: ONLY UPTON FINES (from overdue items) WILL BE WAIVED (ie: if your fines are from other libraries, you would still have to pay those; if the fines are actually replacement charges for lost/damaged items, those cannot be waived.)

And even if you DON'T owe any fines, you are certainly still welcome to make a donation!!
:)

December's discussion book . . .

For our next TeenTuesday (on December 19th), ULTRA will be discussing FLIPPED. Click here to read more about it! Copies are on reserve at the Library now, so just stop by and request one.

Book Store Field Trip!

In September 2006, we went on our first, official ULTRA field trip!
Eight members of ULTRA joined me in a fun-filled shopping spree at Tatnuck Bookseller & Cafe in Westboro. We picked out LOTS of great books and had a great time sharing them all with each other in the store's meeting room, and then carefully selected 40 to purchase for the library's collection! This AWESOME group of teens (ranging in age from preteen to 17!) chose everything from historical fiction to science fiction, fantasy to reality, biographies to graphic novels . . . proving that there really IS something for everyone @ the Library!

Check out these ULTRA-cool T-shirts!!

After helping to raise money for the Friends of the Upton Town Library recently, at their Annual Fall Book Sale, with our own ULTRA-Bake Sale, they were in turn supportive of us, by purchasing our brand-new ULTRA T-shirts! Here some of us are, proudly wearing our new T's!
THANK YOU to the Friends! Also, thank you to the Little Coffee Bean in Upton for their generous donation of coffee, and to the Three Seasons Restaurant at Blackstone Valley Tech.HS for their delicious donations as well!
